For Eastpointe Health & Fitness's Trainer, Grace Lang, and Member, Anne Marie Robbins, Training Has Meant More Than Just Getting Fit"I started working out with Grace in 2007 to get in shape of course, but also to
help me weather a difficult time in my life," said EPH&F member, Anne Marie Robbins. "It is one of the best decisions I ever made." An attorney and the mother of two young adults, Anne Marie has a busy lifestyle and training with Grace is a key component to making sure that busy lifestyle is a healthy one as well. "I train twice a week with Grace and then work out on my own three times a week," said Anne Marie. "I have been training with Grace since the end of 2007 and I am currently in the best shape of my life. Even better then when I was a teenager."
"We concentrate on strengthening the core and improving balance," said Trainer, Grace Lang. "Anne Marie has had some injuries and we have worked around them so she didn't have to stop training. Recently we have been doing some circuit training which combines cardio and weight training. We like to keep it interesting." Grace has been a certified trainer since May of 2005. A native Australian, Grace had pursued professional body building in her twenties and then traveled the world as a chef on private yachts. A resident of Sea Bright for the last 10 years with husband, Richard, she began her career at EPH&G at the front desk. "I started doing orientations and then decided to get my personal training certification," said Grace. "I am so passionate about training and working out. It really can transform people's lives. It is wonderful to absolutely love what you do."
"Grace and I are a good fit," said Anne Marie. "Even though I work out on my own, I would be so unmotivated without her. She is very attuned to my moods and habits and knows how to help me focus and makes good suggestions." Besides working out at EPH&F, Anne Marie plays tennis and rides horses. "Besides feeling great, training has improved my tennis game and I've become a much better rider," said Anne Marie. "I am also fitting into clothes I hadn't worn in a while but to be honest I don't care about being thin anymore. I care about being fit and healthy and when you feel good, you look good."
"I think Anne Marie looks amazing!" said Grace. "A lot of women are hesitant to weight train because they think they're going to build huge muscles and look like a body builder. That just isn't going to happen. Weight training and body building are quite different. Weight training is designed to strengthen the body and improve balance and agility. Training can help anyone, at any age improve their fitness level."
When Anne Marie first began to workout with Grace, she also went for a nutritional evaluation with EPH&F Nutritionist, Kim Garrity. "I knew when I started working out that my eating habits weren't great either," said Anne Marie. "So I decided to have the nutritional evaluation with Kim. That also was helpful in starting me on the right foot on my fitness journey."
Ann Marie continued, "I also have to say that EPH&F has become like my fitness family. It is a very welcoming place. Everyone is so nice and caring and really pulling for you. They want you to succeed. When Grace visits her family in Australia for a couple of weeks, the other trainers have been great to work with, too. I am amazed and gratified to Grace and everyone at EPH&F. Not only for helping me transform my fitness and health but for making me feel like I belong."
