Working Out At Eastpointe Health & Fitness Has Been Life Changing
For Member, Dan
ielle Niro and Personal Trainer, Rose Dowe

Wanting to look good in a bridesmaid dress is what darticle on gym in local pressrove Danielle Niro, Assistant Director of Business Affairs for Rutgers Food Services, to become a member of Eastpointe Health & Fitness. What Danielle got out of the membership became so much more than just looking good at a one time event. Becoming part of the Eastpointe Health & Fitness family brought her monumental life changes. "I had no athletic ability to speak of," said Niro. "I joined the club in December of 2007 and was working out on my own and then in the beginning of 2008 I decided to work with personal trainer, Rose Dowe. That decision changed my life."

A certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Dowe has over 25 years of experience in the fitness industry including Fitness Director, Manager, Head Trainer and Group Fitness instructor. "I specialize in post-rehab injuries and have worked with many clients returning to exercise or just starting out," said Dowe. "I've worked with clients of all ages, levels of experience and body types." Her motto is "Motivation + Knowledge = Results."

Together, Niro and Dowe forged a great relationship as trainer/trainee that eventually became a close friendship. "Danielle is an inspiration to me," said Dowe. "She really made a commitment to get in shape, to get healthy but more importantly she made a commitment to herself."

"It has been such an eye opening experience for me," said Niro. "Working with Rose has changed me physically, mentally and emotionally. She helped me to overcome my fears about exercising and just being in a gym because it can be intimidating. She also helped me to focus and retrain my brain."

"Danielle has had some big changes and events happen in the last year that could have derailed her from her goals but through it all she has stayed committed to herself," said Dowe. "She puts herself first now." Niro has also done things she never thought she would do. "I told Rose I couldn't run," said Niro. "Now I love to run." Dowe added proudly, "Yes, she just ran 40 minutes on the treadmill."

Niro's initial goal was weighgym member with personal trainert loss but that has turned into overall health and wellness. Her goals also motivated her to join the club's Real Results program last Fall. ""Danielle was the winner of our Real Results program in November 08," said Kim Garrity, General Manager and Nutritionist for Eastpointe Health & Fitness. "She did a terrific job during the program but most importantly she has made positive changes in her habits that continue to benefit her health. She is a great example of how the program can work to enhance overall wellness!"

Besides her two one-on-one sessions a week with Dowe, Niro works out once a week with two other members who she got to know in the Real Results program. "I just guide them," said Dowe. "Danielle is the real motivator of the group and they all help each other stay motivated."

"I love coming here," said Niro. "Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and helpful. Rose has been an amazing trainer and friend. She has helped me to not give up on my goals, even goals that aren't work-out related."

Always involved in fitness, Dowe loves what she does. "It's not a job, it's a passion," said Dowe. A high school track and field star specializing in hurdles, Dowe also was influenced by her body building brother. "At that time, I was the only girl allowed in the gym which was the same gym that Lou Ferrigno worked out in," laughed Dowe. She went on to teach aerobics in the first woman's gym in Brooklyn, Elaine Powers New Woman. She also worked in management and training and then moved to Jackson, NJ where she started a family. "I have three sons and six grandchildren," said Dowe. "All my sons and their wives are servicemen or involved in the armed services. I just had a daughter-in-law return from Iraq."

Most recently Dowe worked as a personal home trainer. "I enjoyed it but I missed the atmosphere of the gym," said Dowe. "I was at the beach and saw an ad in the paper for a personal trainer at the gym so I contacted Paul (Mazzella) and the rest is history." Dowe is committed to helping others achieve their fitness and wellness goals. "I have always enjoyed being involved in fitness but as a breast cancer survivor, I value health and fitness on a whole new level," said Dowe. "Not just for myself but for everyone I work with."

If you are interested in joining Eastpointe Health & Fitness, the club offers a free VIP Health Package. "All new guests of the facility are offered a free VIP week membership during which time they have full use of the facility, including all of our group fitness classes," said Mazzella.
