To successfully achieve and maintain weight loss
By Kim Garrity, Nutritionist
The Center for Disease Control reports that two (2) out of three (3) Americans are overweight. This is an eye opening statistic and one that is reinforced daily while you are out and about people watching. Everywhere you go you see the unhealthy physical state of our population.
What is even more startling is that even though six (6) out of ten (10) people WANT to lose weight, only three (3) out of ten (10) are actually trying! Why are ½ the people not even trying? Have they given up hope? Do they not care any longer? Or is it that they have tried too many times and failed to succeed? This last question most likely weighs the heaviest on people’s decision to “drop out.”

Introducing Eastpointe Health & Fitness All Inclusive Training Programs… |
|
| |
By Brian Bott, Personal Trainer
We are proud to announce that we are now offering an all-inclusive training program here at Eastpointe Health & Fitness. We promise that this program will be a unique training experience unlike any you may have had in the past.
Traditional personal training has always been centered on only your appointment with your trainer and has offered little to no outside support on what to do on other days during the week. And no matter how good of a workout you are getting that one time a week with your trainer, I think we can all admit one workout a week is not going to cut it. We also understand that it is hard to financially justify hiring a trainer to meet with you three times per week. So we have come up with a solution that shifts the focus away from just on your hour workout with your trainer and back where it belongs… YOU and YOUR results!
Ok so what do you get…??

It all started many years ago, a little friendly competition between brothers. Who could run faster, jump higher, play harder...Jay or Paul? Over the years there have been varying wagers, always one winner and one fallen hero. All in the spirit of competition.
Fast forward 2011. The Mazzella brothers have been faced with the challenge of staying in shape while battling age, business ownership and the other demands in their lives. Carrying on the tradition of competition, Brian has set forth a challenge to them both to be healthy and strong. Can they achieve it? Which brother will shine in the glory of the win? Will it be Oreo Kid Jay or Pasta Pounder Paul?

The Impact of Hurricane Irene on the Physical Therapy World
How Deep Breathing Exercises Can Help
By Physical Therapist Assistant Kelly Ann Young
Our entire state was affected in some way or another with the recent hurricane. In the days following the storm, it became apparent that our job as physical therapists was not just in physical healing, but helping with emotional healing as well.
On our first day back in the office, we were operating on generator power with some lighting. We were unable to operate our electrical stimulation or ultrasound machines and we had no ice or hot packs. We relied on our hands and hearts to soothe peoples aching muscles and broken hearts. They had been physically battered by days of moving furniture and preparing for the storm, cleaning up flooded basements and homes, and enduring days without power, yet they trickled into the office one by one and proved that the resilience of our patients is commendable.
