  Belly Dancing Workshop  
 
Traditional Middle Eastern dance is not only a performance art but a great form of exercise!

Eastpointe Health & Fitness is offering two Belly Dancing workshops beginning in April. Belly Dance is a non-impact, weight-bearing exercise and is thus suitable for all ages. Most of the movements in belly dancing involve isolating different parts of the body such as hips, shoulders, chest and stomach. These isolations improve flexibility of the torso and core muscle strength. Dancing can also help build strength in the upper-body, arm and shoulders. Each workshop session will include three components:
  • Stretching & Warm-up
  • Drills on various techniques
  • Instructional dance
Each workshop session runs for 6 weeks and costs $99 for members and $129 for non-members:
  • Thursday Evenings from 8:00-9:00 pm April 21st – through May 26th
  • Friday Mornings from 10:30 – 11:30 am April 22nd – through May 27th

  Power Vinyasa Yoga Workshop  
 
Eastpointe Health and Fitness will be hosting a Power Vinyasa Yoga Workshop on Sunday, May 1st from 3-5pm. We will warm up with a 30min. Vinyasa flow, then play with Arm Balances and Inversions and end with a 15min. guided relaxation meditation. Healthy treats and organic wine will be served afterwards for fellow yogis to mix and mingle! The cost will be $25 per person. Please reserve a spot by signing up at the front desk or please see Lindsey Whalen.

  Tough Mudder Update  
 
We are now signing up members of our EPH&F Team "Eastpointe Muddled Bunch" for the Tough Mudder Event which will take place on Saturday, November 12th at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Please speak to Lindsey at the gym or leave your name at the front desk for more information and/or to get our official team name and password (which you will need to join our team when you sign up). You can get other details about the race itself and/or sign up to be part of our team on www.toughmudder.com. We have 15 people on our team already, but the more the better! Last year it sold out several months before the event, so we probably only have a few weeks left…but it could sell out any day now so DON’T WAIT!   Improve your Posture and increase your Strength and Stability with Core Balance  
 
Core Balance is a low-impact class for all ages and fitness levels. It focuses on the all important “core muscles” which are critical for flexibility and balance, and are cited as the number one problem area by women. The class helps you build strength and flexibility and results in an improved posture and a strong lean body. “Core work is not just about abs, and balance is not standing on one leg, it's about creating a strong frame for your body that will help prepare you for daily life activities”, said Grace Lang Personal Trainer/Instructor at EPH&F.

Your core consists of the collection of muscles around your midsection that, when strong enough, supports your body in almost everything it does, from swinging a golf club, to reaching up for something on a top shelf. Weak core muscles leave you susceptible to poor posture, lower back pain and muscle injuries.

  Physical Therapy for Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is one of the most common complaints that we see in our office. Some common causes of shoulder pain are:

Tendonitis
– This occurs when inflammation is present in tendons. Tendons are the structures that connect muscles to bones.

Bursitis – This occurs when inflammation is present in a bursa. A bursa is a fluid-filled sac that helps to decrease friction when the body moves.

Tears – Tears can occur as a result of trauma such as a fall, or they can occur slowly over time. Tears can range from a microscopic level to a complete tear where the muscle or ligament is no longer attached. Click here to read more.
