Protein Shakes after
Workouts
From our Nutrition Blog
Post by Kim Garrity, EPH&F Nutritionist
Kevin O'Donnell asked: After workout meals. I read online, that it is good to drink a Whey protein / Dextrose shake right after working out. I'd like to know your thoughts. And could you recommend what kind and how much to take?
Kim Garrity's Response:
There is definitely a need for a protein source following a workout - especially if it is a weight training session. Weight training requires protein to rebuild and strengthen the muscle fibers.... Whey protein in the form of both powders or a pre-mixed shake severs as a quickly absorbable source.

Join Our Exciting Zumba
Classes. . . It’s Exercise In
Disguise!
“Most of my students are disappointed when the Zumba class comes to an end after an hour,” said Patty Megill, Zumba Instructor. “Now if that doesn’t tell you how fun Zumba is I don’t what does. “If you haven’t heard by now, Zumba has taken the exercise world and EPH&F by storm. This ”exercise in disguise„ combines Latin and International music with dance, making Zumba a great way to get fit in spite of yourself.
”You don’t need to know how to dance to take Zumba", said Patty. “I did not have a strong dance background but I loved to dance. Once I started teaching Zumba, I just became so passionate about it. My students become passionate about it too. I love to see them master these very simplified, easy to learn dance movements.Once the music is on, we’re in the Zumba zone!”
Zumba Instructor Meg Macan did come from a dance background and wanted to inspire people to dance. “I was a ballroom dancer and I especially loved all the Latin dances like Salsa and the Maringa,” said Meg. “When I discovered Zumba, I thought this is the perfect way to combine my love of Latin dance with getting everyone up and dancing. I believe Zumba has brought people into the fitness arena who normally wouldn’t have come. Once they discover how fun and easy Zumba is they open up to the idea of a more fit and healthy lifestyle.”
Come check out our Zumba and Zumba Gold (a gentler version) classes. We’re also adding two more Zumba classes to our schedule in January; as well as an additional Spin Class and a new Saturday morning Boot Camp.If Zumba isn’t your style, we will now have 40 different group fitness classes to choose from every week and they are all included free as part of your membership; including Body Sculpt, Cardio Sculpt, Core Balance, Yoga, Kickboxing, Pilates, Spin and Step

Eastpointe Health & Fitness’
Real Results Fall Session
Results Are In!
As published in the Monitor - December 2010
On September 27th, twenty-three members committed to their health by joining Eastpointe Health & Fitness' All-Inclusive Real Results Health Program. This session ran for eight weeks: from September 27th through November 21st.
During the initial set up, each participant met individually with the facility Nutritionist and a Personal Trainer to complete a full health assessment including initial weights and measurements. Based on this assessment, each person is given an individual plan for both eating and exercise.“It is the customization of the plan that leads to success,” stated Nutritionist and Program Administrator,Kim Garrity.“If it does not work with your lifestyle, it does not work, period!”
